Reflect & set goals, Mrs. Floyd

Media specialists make a world of difference in a 1:1 environment. Reflecting after 2 years in this role is important. I have learned an incredible amount during my stay at Memorial School as media specialist technically and socially.  I've learned alongside my students and try every day to role-model appropriate digital etiquette. Our learners are growing up utilizing so many digital resources/devices. Sometimes this can be overwhelming as kids come home speaking an entirely different language/lingo. Tweeting, instagramming, browsers, url's,  Siri, texting....please keep a watchful eye on your children online at all times! Let them teach you a little about what they are using to communicate online. We've talked extensively about surfing safely and being a responsible, cautious digital citizen. It's fun to google questions together and figure it out and learn together. Common Sense Media is an incredible place for families to review movies, music and all sorts of media. Google that!

When I was a classroom teacher, I always talked with my students about setting goals and identifying your strengths and areas to focus on in the near and far future. I asked the 4th and 5th grade classes to reflect upon library time this year and provide me some feedback.  Here are some highlights:

Positives/Pros:
learning about social media
Many new books this year
iMovie
More tech
Introducing New apps
Using iPads during library time
Funny read alouds & poetry theatre
Websites like abcya.com & Wonderopolis
*My favorite one was that  I listen to them and we figure it out together. :-)

Cons: negatives: suggestions
Never enough time
More read alouds
Students should have more voice in what books to purchase
Less tech
Need more recent books
Multiple copies of certain books
Dislike qr codes and world book :-(
